Dan and Landon began the day together, getting ready for the ceremony – and ended it with a kiss and a promise of forever.
Favourite part of the day: According to Landon, the speeches. “There was a perfect balance of humour and emotion, and many guests commented on how it provided perfect insight into our relationship and our lives.” Dan says the ceremony, and specifically the vows, was the highlight. “It was not lost on me in that moment how lucky we are to live in Canada, to marry whom we choose, and to have a room full of support, love and celebration sharing the moment with us. We didn’t share our vows in advance, yet they were so complementary and perfectly highlighted our love.”
Planning advice: “Secure vendors for the big items quickly – venue, photographer, videographer, florist. Once you secure vendors you’re happy with, you can then relax for months until decisions are required in the weeks leading up to the wedding. Plan so that there is no action or responsibility by you the day of, so you can simply live in the moment. This will allow you to focus on each other and soak up the emotions of the day.”
Unique aspects: Instead of a guest book, the couple had a 1-year anniversary wine and 5-year anniversary wine, and asked guests to place written messages in each wine box. On their first and fifth wedding anniversaries, the men plan to drink the wine and celebrate their anniversary.
